Admissions Panel and Director Workshops

Besides engaging in intellectually-stimulating debates in regular committee sessions, the Secretariat team also wishes to provide delegates an opportunity to learn about things that they have been interested, but haven’t had the opportunity to explore yet. Below are all the director workshops that YMUNK 2023 offers. They are non-mandatory and all delegates can freely choose which workshop to attend.

11:00AM - 11:30AM

Yale undergraduate student admissions panel (Room 305)

Ishan Narra and Seung Min Baik

In this workshop, Delegates will learn how to navigate a crisis backroom. We will simulate hypothetical scenarios and practice how to respond with effective crisis notes and learn how to develop a compelling crisis arc and use this arc as a guide for writing cohesive crisis notes. As workshop leaders, we will create opportunities for Delegates to learn how to use their position powers effectively and provide Delegates with a glimpse into what it is like to turn crisis notes into updates. Through this workshop, delegates will learn how to use templates to turn crisis notes into updates as news reports and social media posts and how to give a crisis update.

11:45AM - 12:15PM

The Meaning of Life (Room 211B)

Elaine Cheng and Hanil Chang

The Meaning of Life workshop is a place for introspection, reflection, and wellness. Delegates will be invited to reflect on the meaning of life through a variety of lenses, ranging from philosophy to guided artistic tasks. The workshop comprises three parts: Delegates will begin with an art exercise that invites them to reflect on their inhabited worlds, then engage in an informal discussion about core values, ranging from authenticity, family, failure, success, friendships, and the future, and end by writing down final thoughts on index cards.

Egyptian Ratscrew (Room 210A)

Way Lee and David Min

Egyptian Ratscrew is a fast-paced card game that anyone can enjoy during their leisure time or at social gatherings. Played with a deck of 52 cards, the objective is to win all the cards by slapping the pile when certain combinations appear. Players take turns placing cards onto a central stack, and when a face card, pair, or sandwich (two cards of the same rank with one card of a different rank in between) appears, anyone can slap the pile. The fastest slapper claims the stack. Beware of false slaps, though, as they come with penalties. With its blend of strategy and reflexes, Egyptian Ratscrew offers endless entertainment and a fun way for Delegates to break the ice.

Origami (Room 305)

Sophia McManus and Clarissa Tan

Join us for a chill session of folding origami! A key symbol of Japanese culture, origami can be a fun source of relaxation, inspiration, and creativity. Take a small break from MUN to unwind with your fellow delegates and chairs. Whether you want to follow along with us or work at your own pace, you’ll be sure to enjoy this workshop. We will make cranes, balloons, boats, boxes, and more – all levels of experience are welcome!
